Course Contents: It is important to take a broader view of many issues, so particular questions are discussed from comparative and historical perspectives. Topics include: the scope of sociology; early origins; social interaction; social system; social structure; social roles; social statutes; social organization; methods and research.
Course Objectives: At the end of this course the student will know the basic issues of interest to sociologists today; will be able to think liberately; with new perspectives, the student will take an objective view of his own society; he would be aware of cultural settings different from his own and he would have better understanding of the social world.
Teaching Method: Lectures and classroom discussion.
Assessment Method: Written exams [two midterms (60%) and one final (40%)]
